ok…i know thats definitely not a word, it sounded right in my head though!
I have toyed with the idea of becoming a vegetarian for awhile now for many reasons:
- I don’t even like meat!
- the thought of consuming hormones that are fed to animals make me cringe
- I feel healthier, lighter, and have more energy when I don’t eat meat
- I never get a stomach ache when I eat vegetarian – and I ALWAYS have tummy issues
- I really love animals – I have become a lot more sensitive to animal cruelty ever since I rescued my dog
….ok so I can’t exactly think of all the reasons or even put them into words.
The only problem is that my mom and my boyfriend don’t fully support my decision. They give me a hard time and every time I bring it up they tell me I won’t get in enough protein – especially my mom. My boyfriend thinks its going against God’s intentions or something; he is actually being mostly sarcastic in saying this, however he has established that our children will be carnivores – not that we would even be having kids for several years! My dad on the otherhand is actually more “on my side”, he had tried to become a vegetarian in the past.
so there you have it! I really really really want to become a vegetarian! I love tofu, gardenburgers, and all vegetables. I have already bought lots of vegetarian meat substitutes such as boca burgers and Yves soy-dogs. please wish me luck! this is going to be a really hard transition for me, but I am going to try to make it work this time.
now on to some food!
After seeing this all over the blogworld and especially after seeing Lee’s big purchase, I finally bought some peanut butter from Peanut Butter and Co. I got the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl flavor, and used a heading tablespoon to top off my oatmeal this morning:

I had my “breakfast” at 1 pm! what a bum, hehe. Later on in the afternoon I snacked on an orange & a few dates; a little later I had a blueberry chobani with some granola, I guess this was my lunch

Dinner was a whole lot of random crap thrown together in hopes of making something decent. Guess what?!?! It was A-mazing! I satueed together some chopped onions and mushrooms, then added in 1/2 cup of black beans and some of trader joe’s vegan fried rice, and at the last minute I chopped up a Yves “hot-dog” and threw it in there…it was kind of like ghetto fusion cooking where mexican meets asian =) I also used some Bragg’s to season it a bit.

Of course I wanted something sweet afterwards – I had a smallish bowl of sweet strawberries

I still feel kinda munchy so I may have a couple more dates. I am supposed to read like 86 pages for a 10:30 AM class tomorrow – but I don’t even have the book! I went to the bookstore this afternoon and they were sold out of every single book I need for the two classes I signed up for except for one book that isn’t even for my class tomorrow =( hopefully the professor will have some advice for me.
Question: have any advice/suggestion/opinions about becoming a vegetarian?

I think you could totally do it, seeing that you aren’t a fan of meat in the first place. I do wonder about having the “fake meat substitutes”. I’ve actually never tried them before, but if you don’t like the taste of meat, I don’t think you really need those in your eats, since well… why get something that resembles meat? -lol-
i’ve been having the SAME thoughts lately.. but i don’t think i could EVER give up salmon, tuna, shrimp & tilapia.
so i would suck at being vegetarian because i love my seafood!
but GOOD LUCK WOMAN! looks like you have it down pat so far.
i’m a roooottin for ya
Just go gradual with becoming a vegetarian. Gradually stop buying meat and cooking with more protein-laden natural meat substitutes. And don’t worry about not being able to get enough protein without meat. I’ll see if I can find some resources for you (bed time soon, no time now!), but there are PLENTY of natural protein sources (off the top of my head…legumes (beans, lentils, etc.), yogurt (Greek!!), nuts, etc. – those are some stand by pantry items I always have on hand for veg. protein.
(And no I’m not really a vegetarian…I kind of cycle through things, but I’ve been thinking about going totally vegetarian too…I really crave veggies so much more than meat, and I feel better too!)
Sorry if any of this didn’t make sense…I need to go to bed!!
Best of luck with this–I think you’ll do great. I don’t have any advice because I’m trying to cut out meat and become more of a flexitarian myself, but so far it’s much easier than I thought it would be. Lots of nuts, seeds, tofu, hemp powder…it’s fun. Are you still going to eat eggs? Fish? Sorry for all the questions! Just excited for you!
pleeeeeeeeeeeeease share the recipe for the doggie ice cream!
im not a vegetarian obviously but i tried to be one for like three weeks. it was terrible. my advice is to always plan ahead with snacks and whatnot. thats what did me in!
OMG this is so weird. i have had the same exact thoughts lately, and my mom and bf haven’t really been all for it. they just don’t see why i can’t just cut down on meat, not cut it out completely and that i will need the protein. I have been going through it in my head alot too. I have definitely cut back on meat, and i try to get vegetarian meals as much as possible. hopefully i can just cut it down until its completely gone and make it a gradual process?? how crazy that our thoughts are exactly the same!
your dinner looks tasty! Don’t you just love when you can throw stuff together and it turns out awesome! Whenever I do that I feel like I’m some kind of chef! hah! About being a vegetarian. I’m not a huge fan of meat. but, my hubby LOVES it! I really have no way around it. You gotta do what’s best for your body though:) Take care! have a great Tuesday. xoxo
hey, I make up my own words all the time too. My fave is Yumlicious, so I like your word
Yum! I need to try to Cinnamon Swirl pb…next try Might Maple- it’s heaven in a jar.
Have a wonderful day, lovey.
hey girly!
i’m a pescatarian, but have gone full-up veggie before and quit because i ate too many soy products. the soy substitutes are great but it’s easy to get burned out– just make sure you have lots of variety!
congrats on your decision to go veg
have a wonderful day!
Hi! I think it’s great what you’re doing in striving to become a vegetarian. Sorry everyone seems so against it, but if you ease them into it and prove that despite being on a veggie diet you are still alive and full of life, they’ll totally respect you for your choices. Personally I couldn’t ever become vegetarian because I love seafood WAY too much. I LOVE my bbq grilled chicken too…so I totally look up to you for that decision.
Good for you!! And for your wonderful blog.
hey lady! delicious eats
i wish i could just throw some things together and have it turn out amazing! i think you should do whatever is best FOR YOU– if that means becoming a vegetarian– so be it!
it’s your life lady– do whatever makes you feel good, happy and healthy! xoxox
I have a co-worker that became Vegan last year and has kept to the lifestyle, but her boyfriend/family were totally against it at first (why I don’t know since there are so many ways now to get protein!) Why do other people have an opinion about what YOU put in your mouth. I will never understand it! But, since she really kept up with it, and explained why she was doing it, they finally laid off. As you mentioned there are a ton of meat alternatives. You can also supplement your diet with nutritional yeast. Check out this site to read up on it if you don’t know. http://www.bulkfoods.com/yeast.htm
Nutritional yeast has lost of B6 vitamins, its high in protein. You can add it to smoothies, put it in pancake batter, sprinkle it on popcorn etc..Anyway do what you feel comfortable doing, and don’t let people tell you how to live.
That’s my 2 cents about it!
I’m not vegetarian, but do make a lot of vegetarian meals. I would recommend getting some vegetarian cookbooks. There are so many yummy meat-free recipes out there! Good luck with whatever you decide. Sometimes labels can be too constricting, just eat what you feel like and what makes you feel good!
hows the vegetarianism going!?
hey, thanks for commenting on my blog so i could find yours
i have been an on and off vegetarian since I was about 13. i am currently veg (no fish) since the middle of december. i think it’s sticking this time. my boyfriend is mostly supportive – he doesn’t really get why i don’t want to eat things that have touched meat though, like veggies in a stirfry that also has chicken. and he forgets a lot that i’m not eating fish this time because in the past i’ve been a pescatarian and i ate fish/seafood. anyway, good luck – i think it’s a fantastic way of life and i feel much better this way.
SO AWESOME that you’re taking the plunge and becoming vegetarian! My stubborn, meat-loving boyfriend (after YEARS of making fun of me for being vegetarian) recently became vegan — honestly, if he can do it, anyone can
All you can do is lead by example—if your boyfriend/mom sample some of the yummy vegetarian things you cook, I bet they won’t think it’s so weird
staples of my diet include: beans (lovve vegetarian chili!), morningstar farms/boca products, soymilk, PRODUCE, nut butters….
